About My Campaign

MY NAME IS GEORGE PADANYI, AND THIS IS MY STORY:

On September 15th, 2019, I experienced a SCA (sudden cardiac arrest) while playing hockey. Thankfully, there was a girl named Raychel Gillis watching the game that day, because she saved my life.

She recognized that I was in sudden cardiac arrest and had the courage and confidence to call 911 and begin CPR right away. There was a publicly accessible AED (Automated External Defibrillator) available at the the arena that she asked someone to retrieve. She was able to use it to deliver a life-saving shock that brought me back. Thanks to Raychel's actions and quick access to an AED, today I'm alive and healthy and already back to playing hockey again!

I've learned that sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is still one of the leading causes of death and can happen to anyone, anywhere and at any time. There are approximately 40,000 out of hospital SCAs in Canada each year but only 10% of people survive. Access to an AED combined with CPR can increase the chance of survival by 75% ! With less than 10 minutes to save a life from Sudden Cardiac Arrest, we all need the power to take action.
